Give Back to Utica Internship Program
The Give Back to Utica Internship Program was started by Steve Oram, a donor-advisor of The Community Foundation. Steve is a Utica native who got his start in the Oneida County Executive Office and is now a successful lawyer in Washington, D.C. The selected intern will be awarded with $1,000 for completing the internship.

Utica Zoo Internships Available for Program:
Timeline: Up to five weeks of internship, up to 30 hours per week

Communications & Development
Interns are involved in the implementation of the Utica Zoo’s PR plan and will gain hands-on knowledge and experience running a local and regional campaign. Interns write press materials, edit, organize news clips files, give building tours to media, set up and work booths at outreach events, update media databases, assist at special events and more. Within the department, graphic design, advertising and web based marketing will also be explored and developed. Interns also assist with duties related to fundraising, which could include: helping with creation of database for grants and foundation work, grant and foundation research, assisting with the Development staff with donor events, research potential funding sources (foundations, corporations, individuals, and public sources), data entry and other administrative duties as assigned. Interns also assist with Adopt and Animal fulfillment and new member acquisition campaigns. Interns will work closely with the staff and volunteers, providing support to all departments. Could include other responsibilities as they develop, based on intern’s interest areas and organization needs.
Applicants should have an interest in public relations and related course work, be comfortable in new situations, be able to react to situations quickly and multi-task as well as have a strong interest in conservation, wildlife, non-profit organization and conservation education Strong writing and research skills, flexible availability, ability to work in a team or independently and effective interpersonal skills and excellent writing skills are also required.
