In Memory of Barbara J. Lambert

June 20, 2020

It is with great sadness to inform you that Barbara J. Lambert ended her adventures on Earth on June 6, 2020. Mrs. Lambert was the pioneer of the Utica Zoo Education Department, known affectionately as “The Zoo Lady” by entire generations of school children. Mrs. Lambert shared her love and passion for the Utica Zoo with all, laying out the Utica Zoo newsletter by hand with her husband, Buddy, washing heads of lettuce in her driveway to donate for the animals, and providing visitors with crackers to feed to animals while visiting. Her dedication to the Utica Zoo was a true family community service effort.

All of us at the Utica Zoo are proud to carry on her legacy and continue to provide the love, dedication, and attention to educating our community as Mrs. Lambert did. In the spirit in which Barb lived her life, one of her final wishes was to have donations made in her honor and memory to the Utica Zoo. Keeping with Barb’s wishes, those wishing to make a donation to the animals’ care at the Utica Zoo may do so via the Animal Care Fund or the form below. Feel free to leave a personal message or memory so that we may share with our staff and Barb’s family.

Thank you for your support and for helping us continue Barb’s legacy. Read Barbara’s full obituary HERE
