Martial Arts Demonstration
Jul 30 @ 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

American Martial Arts Institute will perform demonstrations at the Utica Zoo on Thursday, July 30th at 1pm near the Wildlife Building.

Here is the tentative schedule:

Mock Class                This will give the audience an idea of how the students train and what they are taught.  It will include punches, kicks, and basic forms (blocks and strikes).

Kata                            This will cover what kata are, and many students will demonstration these traditional martial arts forms.

Weapons’ Kata          Some of the traditional martial arts “weapons”, most of which were originally farming tools, include the tonfa, bo, sai, kama, escrima, naginata, half-moon staff, sword, cane, and eku.  Some students will demonstrate some traditional katas done by our school.

Instructor’s Demo.                Some of the instructor will demonstration traditional batto-do, using a samurai sword to cut through a cylinder of soaked, bound reeds on a stand.  This demonstrates the sharpness of the sword and the skill of the practitioner.

American Cane System        Some students and/or instructors will demonstrate kata using a walking cane for self-defense.

Sparring                     Some of the students will demonstrate sparring wearing padded safety gear.

Wood Breaking         Some students may demonstrate breaking wood using various martial arts techniques.

Self-Defense               Grandmaster Crandall will demonstration self-defense against common assault scenarios using Master Stalloch as a partner.

Meditation Demonstration   The demonstration will end with two meditation demonstrations by black belt instructors.  For example, walking barefoot through a tray of broken glass.
