Utica Zoo Docent classes to begin this Fall
Docent class will start on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:00 PM. The class wil1 start with an overview of the role of a docent and a tour of the zoo. We will meet every Tuesday from 6:00 to approximately 8:00 PM for five weeks. During the classes you will learn basic facts and natural history of our education animals, safe animal handling procedures, public speaking and animal enrichment. What is a Utica Zoo Docent? A Volunteer teacher or guide of at least 18 years of age who teaches about wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation.
What does a docent do? * Presents animal programs both on zoo grounds and at area schools, institutions, and organizations. * Leads guided zoo tours. * Helps during zoo special events. * Provides animal enrichment. * Interprets ecosystems and conservation through the use of biofacts and education animals.
