Utica Zoo Docent  classes to begin this Fall

Docent class will start on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:00 PM. The class wil1 start with an overview of the role of a docent and a tour of the zoo. We will meet every Tuesday from 6:00 to approximately 8:00 PM for five weeks. During the classes you will learn basic facts and natural history of our education animals, safe animal handling procedures, public speaking and animal enrichment.  Contact Mary Hall, Education Director, for further information regarding the program and classes by e-mail at mary.hall@uticazoo.org.

What is a Utica Zoo Docent?
A Volunteer teacher or guide of at least 18 years of age who teaches about wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation.

What does a docent do?
* Presents animal programs both on zoo grounds and at area schools, institutions, and  
   organizations.
* Leads guided zoo tours.
* Helps during zoo special events.
* Provides animal enrichment.
* Interprets ecosystems and conservation through the use of biofacts and education animals.
