As you are aware, the Utica Zoo is temporarily closed but we are looking to the future and to seeing you when the Zoo reopens. Our members are vital to the Utica Zoo and provide the necessary operating support needed to care for the animals that call the zoo home. During this time you can be certain the dedicated Utica Zoo animal care and facilities staff are taking great care of the zoo animals and maintaining zoo grounds. We appreciate your support and consider you a part of the Utica Zoo family.
Understanding our temporary closure diminishes the duration of time our current members can utilize their membership; we are offering an extension to your membership expiration date equal to the amount of time we are closed (rounded up to a full month) upon request once we reopen. All new members have the opportunity to purchase their membership today and either have their membership expire in one year or one year from when we reopen.
Although we are temporarily closed, the Utica Zoo team is developing new, online programs to enable you to enjoy the Utica Zoo from home. We have launched our new “Uti-kaZoo: Utica Zoo Kid’s Academy Zoo” to bring educational videos, activities, and crafts directly to you! Be sure to follow along on Facebook throughout the week for photos and videos of all your favorite animals, plus updates about happenings at the Zoo. We have also created a page featuring special Members Only content for you to enjoy as a member at www.UticaZoo.org/members-only If you are a member and need the password to the page, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

How are the animals doing at this time?
The animals are being cared for daily by our amazing animal care team. The zoo is well prepared and we have stocked up on food, vitamins and supplements for all the animals. Our facilities crew is also on grounds maintaining the zoo as well as working on some exciting new changes. Once we reopen, we hope you join us to the changes we made while we were closed.
When will my membership start if I am a new member?
All new members will be asked if they would like their membership to start that day or once we reopen. If you become a member through our website, our form has a place to let us know your preference. If you mailed in your membership form, we will call or email you to determine your preference. All memberships are good for one year from their start date.
I am a renewing member, will my membership expiration date change at all?
All of our renewing members will not get a new expiration date if you renew while we are closed. Once we reopen, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to get an extension on your expiration date equal to the amount of time (rounded up to a full month) we were closed.
I just renewed before the zoo temporarily closed, will I get a refund for the time I won’t be able to visit the zoo, or get an extension on my expiration date for the time the zoo was closed?
We will not be issuing refunds for any time lost on your membership. Once we reopen, you can email email@example.com to get an extension on your expiration date equal to the amount of time (rounded up to a full month) we were closed.
If the zoo is closed, when will I get my membership cards?
While our administrative staff is working from home as per government mandates, we are unable to create new or updated membership cards. Once we reopen, our staff will put together the membership cards for any new or renewing memberships that we received while we were closed and will mail them to the address provided.
Why should I get a membership now if the zoo is temporarily closed?
We rely on membership fees to help fund our daily animal care, keep our facilities running and pay our staff. Even if we are closed, we still have dedicated staff caring for the animals, essential facilities staff are still on grounds for general maintenance and emergency repairs if needed, and our education staff is working hard remotely to provide all of our online friends’ things to do from home. We are also providing our members with exclusive behind the scenes photos, videos and more while we are closed. Is there any digital member-only content for me to access?
We are providing all of our members behind the scenes updates and exclusive member-only information on the day-to-day care our dedicated staff is still providing our animals at the zoo via email. If you are unsure if you are on our member email list or have not received the Members Only content password, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to give us your most up to date email.
Our online friends can find fun and educational things to do at home at www.uticazoo.org/kazoo as well as on our Facebook page. We have also planned to do as many events that are usually done on-grounds as a digital event. For example, our Digital Eggstravaganza 2020. Our LIVE: Cotton Top Tamarins and Rhinoceros Iguanas Webcam is available to watch our critically endangered Cotton Top Tamarins and our sunbathing Rhinoceros Iguanas. The Utica Zoo was awarded the Top 25 Most Interesting Webcams of 2019 award by EarthCam.
What will the zoo use my membership fees for if it is currently closed?
We rely on membership fees, among other things, to help fund our daily animal care, keep our facilities running and pay our dedicated staff. The funds received while we are closed will help make up the deficit of income that we would normally be getting as our busy season was just about to begin.
Can I still give a zoo membership as a gift?
Yes! We will still be providing gift certificates to anyone purchasing a gift membership on our website or when mailed in. Gift certificates will be mail to the recipient within 7-10 business days.
Will I still get a full years’ worth of benefits for my membership?
We are allowing our members to request an extension to their membership expiration date if they choose. If you do not request an extension on your membership, we believe our exclusive member-only pictures, videos and more are worth any time lost visiting the zoo. Once we reopen, we will still provide our members with discounts to events, discounts in our gift shop as well as the many benefits listed below.
As an accredited member of The Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Utica Zoo reciprocates with other AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums across the USA and Canada. This agreement also allows the members of reciprocal zoos to receive free admission to the Utica Zoo. Due to constant changes in the reciprocal list, we recommend you call before you visit any zoo or aquarium to ensure they are still participating in the program.
