Education Programs

Upcoming Utica Zoo Education Programs. Pre-registration is required. All classes begin at 10:30am (unless noted) in the auditorium and cost $5.00 per child for Utica Zoo members and $10.00 per child for non-members. Families are welcome to arrive at 10:00am to enjoy coffee while your kids play! There will be activities and games provided before class at no additional cost. Stroller Safari (6-18 Months): Load up the stroller and join the wildest adventure in town with your toddler or infant! Each safari includes an interactive tour and an up close animal encounter!

Hatchlings (18 Months to 3 Years): Join us as we transform our classroom into an exploration center just for your toddler. Each session will have themed activities, discovery stations, and new animals to meet!

Zoo Adventures (3 to 5 Years): Join our preschool class as we explore the world through storybooks! Each class includes a story reading, animal meet and greet, and activity!

Homeschool (6 Years and Up): Is your child a budding zoologist? Our interactive homeschool classes help to further homeschool studies through group activities and animal interactions.

Member Mornings: Member Mornings are free, family programs for Utica Zoo members-only and will cover a variety of topics and activities such as animal presentations, tours and animal enrichment. Only 30 spots are available per day, and pre-registration is required by emailing or calling Mary at (315) 738-0472 ext 26.

  • Sunday, February 25th at 9:30am – Animal Tracking. Join us at the zoo and learn how to tell which animals have been sneaking around the zoo. If the conditions allow, we will be snowshoeing so dress accordingly. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair of ours.
  • Sunday, March 18th at 9:30am – Join Zoo educators for a fun forest themed member morning. We meet some animals that call the forest home and learn how invasive species are changing our forest ecosystem. After the class we will be pulling on our gloves to remove some invasive plants.
  • Sunday, April 15th at 9:30am – Bird, Birds, Birds! – Explore the amazing diversity of birds at the Utica Zoo and make a special treat for our Cranes and Ostrich.

Night Prowl: Have you ever wondered what happens at the zoo when the lights go off and the gates close? Learn about the animals that go bump in the night! Admission to the program is $5.00 per child for members or $10.00 per child for nonmembers. One adult is admitted free per one child. Additional adult admission is $5.00 for members or nonmembers.

Utica Public Library Story Time: Looking for something new to do with your little ones? Utica Zoo is partnering with the Utica Library for a special, interactive story time program! There will be fun stories, games, and songs! The cost per class is $5.00 per child and any accompanying adults are free. Admission to the zoo for the day is also included in this price!
